David Swift

David Swift is the Global Head of Packaging Sourcing at Novartis. He was born and raised in Ireland and attended university in the UK, where he graduated with a degree in Business. David is married with three children and lives in the Basel area.

After graduating from University, David moved to France where he made French fries for McDonalds, taught English to aircraft mechanics and finally ran a sports store in Nice. From there, he moved to the Netherlands where, for 5 years, he worked at the European HQ of a major sports retailer (FootLocker) in inventory management. Following this, he moved to Brussels, where he worked for PWC Consulting in the supply chain, procurement and retail practices doing projects in Europe and the Middle East. After 3,5 years in consulting, he went back to the “real” world and got a job in industry with KONE Elevators & Escalators as a category manager for indirect procurement – fleet, IT and facilities management.  From there, he moved to a company making plastics (Borealis Polymers) to be Head of Indirect Procurement. After one year in that job he was asked to head up the direct procurement group and I took over responsibility for raw materials and packaging. Three years later, Novartis came knocking and David moved to Basel in May 2010 to head up the cross divisional packaging sourcing team.
